In 2020, Hale Kipa celebrated its 50th anniversary serving Hawai‘i’s youth and their families. Founded by the Honolulu Police Department, Family Court and the Junior League, Hale Kipa has grown from a single shelter on O‘ahu since its inception in 1970.
At first, we provided a safe haven for domestically abused and runaway girls. Recognizing gaps among the limited services available to youth, we expanded over time to include youth outreach, independent living, therapeutic counseling, foster care and other programs. Our services now span O‘ahu, Kaua‘i, Maui, and the Island of Hawai‘i.
