Honolulu Rotary Club Refreshes YO! Facility
The Youth Outreach (YO!) facility in Waikīkī recently underwent a major refresh thanks to the Rotary Club of Honolulu Rotary Action Team (RAT Pack).
The RAT Pack coordinates and participates in hands-on construction projects that assist local non-profit organizations.
The YO! project, completed in two days, had a huge scope of interior and exterior enhancements and renovations. On the exterior, the team repainted, replaced the timber edging on the entry ramp, removed leaf and grass debris, cleaned the drain trap and gutters, removed an oleander trunk, scrubbed and painted tables and stools, installed replacement light fixtures, replaced a plastic shed, and more.
Inside, the RAT Pack replaced an overhead fan and a kitchen door, sorted bath supplies and used clothing, donated additional youth-friendly garments, and reupholstered stools.
“Our accomplishments at YO! are only possible through the generous support of caring community organizations like the RAT Pack,” said YO! coordinator, Alika Campbell. “They are truly the unsung heroes of YO! We will endeavor to make the most of the opportunity that this generous group provided us.”
YO!, a collaboration between Hale Kipa and Waikiki Health, meets Oʻahu’s runaways, homeless and street-identified youth, and young adults up to 22 years old where they are, including on the streets. YO! engages this population that other programs don’t reach by introducing them to services that help them transition from the streets into a more stable environment. The program provides case management, health and medical services, independent skills training, fresh, nutritious meals, and more on a referral or walk-in basis.
